Christmas Concert December 11

The Lee County Community Band will awaken the magic of the holiday season in the young and young-at-heart when it presents its annual Christmas concert on December 11. The program will take place at 3 p.m. at Cape Coral High School, 2300 Santa Barbara Boulevard, just north of Veterans Parkway.

Director Richard Bradstreet has selected a program of both sacred and secular Christmas music, featuring Parade of the Wooden Soldiers, Twas the Night Before…, Jingle Bells Fantasy, Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Journey to Bethlehem, Caribbean Christmas, and several medleys of favorite Christmas carols.

Additional concert dates are Jan. 22, Feb. 12, March 5, and April 2, 2017. The events are free (donations accepted) and open to the public; all will be at 3 p.m. at Cape Coral High School. An institution in Southwest Florida, the band enjoys a large, loyal, and enthusiastic audience. Come early and enjoy these always well-attended concerts.

Launches New Season Nov. 13

The Lee County Community Band will kick off its 131st season on November 13 with a concert paying tribute to veterans of the U.S. Armed Services and showcasing the works of American composers. The program will be at Cape Coral High School beginning at 3 p.m.

Director Richard Bradstreet has selected a program featuring American Folk Rhapsody by Clare Grundman; Vaudeville Spectacular, arranged by Paul Nagle, America the Beautiful by Augustus Ward; and Appalachian Suite by Aaron Copeland; as well as favorite marches by Karl King and John Philip Sousa. In keeping with custom for the first concert of the season, the band will perform the Armed Forces Salute, during which veterans from each branch of the military are recognized.

The band will perform six concerts between November and April. Rehearsals Resumes October 20, 2016

The Lee County Community Band will begin rehearsing for its 131st season on October 20 at St. Michael Lutheran School in Ft. Myers. The first concert for 2016-17 is set for November 13 at 3 p.m. at Cape Coral High School.

Band members are musicians from all walks of life – career musicians, amateurs, and folks renewing skills from years past – who reside in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte Counties. The band welcomes new members every year. Persons interested in joining may phone Norman Jones at 239-995-2097.
